It appears that after decades of dreaming, the idea of flying around solo with your very own machine may have arrived.

JetPack Aviation claims that, after 40 years of work, it has developed the world’s only true jetpack.

The company has recently posted test flights of the airborne backpack online, with some questioning whether it is an elaborate hoax, or the future of travel.

“We’ve been test flying JB-9 for several years with awesome results. It is inherently stable but also capable of very dynamic manoeuvres thanks to our approach to engine vectoring,” the company claims on its website.

The inventors claim their new version (JB-10) can achieve heights over 3,000m and reach speeds of 160km/h with a flight time of around 10 minutes.

Basic forms of “jetpacks” powered by rockets or water already exist, but this particular model is the first known turbine powered version, making it capable of vertical take-offs.

While many are still sceptical, we can’t help but think what a fun trip to work this would make.
