Popular restaurant booking service TheFork to close in Australia
Global online restaurant booking service TheFork is ceasing operations in Australia.
In an email to users, the company confirmed from March 31, 2024, its local website and app will no longer be available.
"We understand that this decision may come as a surprise, and we want to assure you that this was not a choice made lightly," it said in a statement.

TheFork said the impact of the pandemic on the global economy was behind its decision to cease operations in Australia.
"Due to the significant impact the pandemic had on the global economy, particularly the hospitality industry, we therefore had to implement certain cost measures, which includes a reduction of TheFork's geographical footprint."

The company was set up in Europe in 2007 and two years later expanded its operations to Australia, where it grew to be the leading restaurant booking service.
Australian customers have until March 31 to redeem loyalty points, known on the platform as Yums.
After that date, any unused points will automatically expire and will become inaccessible.
During this period, TheFork said its services will remain fully operational, and customers will be able to continue booking restaurants with the company.
