Budget airline Rex launches loyalty program for frequent flyers
Australian budget airline Rex has launched a loyalty program for frequent flyers and announced it will build its own lounges at some of the country's major airports.
Customers can sign up for Rex Flyer for free and start earning points effective immediately and will be able to spend points for flight bookings from mid-November.
The airline claims its "Anytime" redemption offer – one of three options under the program – will be the most flexible of any frequent flyer scheme in Australia.

"The program with its superior benefits means we can at last reward our passengers for the loyalty they have shown us over many years as we have fought hard - often against almost impossible odds - to provide them with safe, affordable and reliable air services," Rex Deputy Chair John Sharp said.
The airline is offering 5000 bonus points to anyone who signs up for the program by January 2, and is also offering double the rewards points for bookings made before that date.
It says customers will earn "up to" seven points per dollar spent on flights.
An economy flight between Melbourne and Sydney would cost between 30,900 and 7400 points, depending on the loyalty program tier, while a business class seat on the same flight would require between 34,900 and 17,400 points.

However, passengers will still be required to pay for carrier charges, taxes and service fees on top of that points amount.
Like all airlines, Rex says the exact number of points required to book a flight can change, just as the dollar costs do.
Customers will also be able to use a combination of points and cash to book, and will also have the option of using points to upgrade their seat from economy to business class.
In addition to the launch of the loyalty program, Rex says it will begin construction on its own airport lounges "imminently".
The lounges are planned for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide airports.
