In an effort to be a one-stop shop for communications, messaging service app WhatsApp has announced users will now be able to make video calls.
The update will allows WhatsApp's more than one billion users to make video calls across Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices.
"We're excited to announce the next step in our efforts to connect people," the company said in a statement.
"We're introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren't enough.
"We want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks."
The update is intended to help WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, complete with similar video call services like Skype and Facetime.
WhatsApp said it is "excited" to offer this update after receiving "many" requests for video calling.
Facebook purchased the app from Ukrainian businessman Jan Kourm in 2014 for nearly $22 billion (USD), Forbes reports.
