Lexus unveils fully driveable cardboard car

It might not be as sleek or as shiny as other sports cars, but this one-of-a-kind cardboard car is fully functional and safe to drive on the road.

A small team of designers unveiled the origami-inspired car this week.

“We’ve taken the Lexus IS and converted it into a 1:1 cardboard model form of a real car,” Lasercut Works’ Daniel Ryan said.

The creation took five people three months to build, and is made up of more than 1700 pieces of laser-cut cardboard.

The model Lexus IS features cardboard wheels, working doors, a full interior, and LED lights.

Mr Ryan said the car often attracted “double takes”, with audiences surprised to see “a digital piece of work in the real world.”

Because it’s electric, it can also be driven like a normal car.

However, prospective drivers should carefully check the weather forecast for any chance of rain.
