Jeff Bezos hit with $24k in parking fines while renovating $34m home

The richest man in the world has reportedly racked up $A24,900 while renovating his $A34 mansion in the US.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was given 564 citations during the three-year renovation of his Kalorama home, according to Washington DC's Department of Public Works records obtained by news site WUSA9.

The fines were given between October 2016 and October 19, with more than 90 tickets were reportedly issued in April 2018 alone.

It was revealed the tickets were issued for ignoring "no parking signs", using spots reserved for other residents or blocking crosswalks and obstructing pedestrian paths

The Department of Motor Vehicle revealed more than $A7400 of the fines had been unpaid, although a source close to the construction project said they had since been paid.

"All the outstanding tickets in question have been paid," the source told WUSA9.

The Kalorama neighbourhood is known as one of the most expensive and exclusive areas in the district, with the Obamas and Ivanka Trump also living in the area.

Bezos purchased the 27,000 square-foot property for $A34 million in 2016 before paying $A17 million to renovate the former museum into his private residence. 

Blueprints showed the mansion had 11 bedrooms, ballroom, wine cellar, whiskey tasting room and private movie theatre.

At least two contractors who worked on the Bezos home said anyone hired for the renovation was required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Bezos is currently worth $A186 billion, according to estimates from Forbes.
