Coolest new features coming to iPhone this year

Apple has just announced a new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by the company's second generation silicone - the M2 chip. 

WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) kicked off at Apple Park in Cupertino today with its slickest presentation yet.

And by the end of this year, the way you use your iPhone will change forever with iOS16. 

UNDO, EDIT MESSAGES

Finally! 

Apple will let you edit texts you send in the messages app. 

You can fix typos or delete messages you accidentally sent or sent too early. 

Texts can be changed for up to 15 minutes but after that, they're permanent.

You'll also be able to mark a thread as unread so you remember to reply later. 

APPLE PAY LATER

This is AfterPay, Apple style. 

It'll be built directly into Apple Wallet and allow you to pay for items over six weeks in four instalments. 

Apple Pay Later - like the Apple credit card - is limited to the United States for now.

There will be a budget page that keeps track of spending, how much and when your next payment is coming up as-well-as order tracking for incoming parcels. 

Apple is also adding the ability for businesses to accept payments on an iPhone - no additional hardware required. 

It's also progressing on its digital ID system to sync up drivers licences, travel cards and "keys" which can be shared. 

A BETTER LOCK SCREEN

The iPhone lock screen is being completely overhauled. 

Notifications will no longer hide the people and pets featured on your wallpaper and instead, roll up from the bottom of the screen. 

That's where new widgets will also display "live activities" like AFL and NBA scores, without having to unlock your phone. 

In addition to customising widgets, you'll also be able to customise the colours, font and wallpaper filters from your lock screen. 

SHARED PHOTO ALBUMS

iCloud is getting an update that will allow up to six people to share in an album. 

Albums can be organised by people, place or time and automatically updated so you never have to worry about sharing photos again.

Everyone can contribute, caption and edit the photos and you can see what will be uploaded as you're taking the photo in the camera app.

CAR PLAY

Instead of powering one screen, Car Play will soon power your entire vehicle. 

Apple is designing everything - including the dashboard - to integrate traditional metrics like speed, RPM and fuel with maps, music and more. 

Colours, clusters and layouts are all customisable. 

Of course, it all depends on you owning a car that can do it. 

Apple says the first vehicles to use the features will be announced later this year. 

FAMILY SHARING

Parents have been able to share purchases with up to five family members. 

Now, all the parental controls will be baked in while setting up a new device. 

It should make things easier and quicker for parents. 

Plus, if you get a request for more screen time, you can now respond directly in messages and get results without having to dive into settings. 

EVEN MORE 

Apple is redesigning dictation so that your keyboard doesn't disappear - which many of my colleagues will love. 

Soon, you'll pause any video and be able to interact with it like an image; selecting and copying text. 

Cutting your dog out of an image and spamming your friends with texts of its face will soon be possible thanks to new image processing tools. 

Trips with up to 15 stops will soon be allowed in Maps, which will also display your travel card balance. 

Plus, a quasi-3D Sydney will soon be added to the all new look in Maps.

And soon you'll be able to follow your favourite teams in Apple News with highlights mixed in with articles.

IOS 16 will be available on iPhone this Spring.  Many features will also be available on Mac and iPad.

The new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro will go on sale in Australia next month for $1,899 and $1,999 respectively.
