Telstra blocking 7600 scam emails a minute for Bigpond customers
We all get annoying emails, unsolicited emails, and we're also likely to be in receipt of some other emails that might look legitimate but contain links to malicious software, have malware embedded in them or are sent with the pure intent of making you a scam victim.
Australia's biggest telco has revealed the staggering number of emails they're blocking before they even reach customer mailboxes.
Under Telstra's "Cleaner Pipes" initiative, which also blocks SMS and phone call scams, emails are being blocked at a rate of about 7600 per minute.

According to the telco, that's more than a third (38 per cent) of all inbound email to Bigpond accounts.
Telstra has a lot of email running through its system.
Last Friday during the Black Friday sales event there was a huge volume of emails promoting specials and offers at shops and websites all around Australia and the world.
On that day alone Telstra's email system processed more than 56 million emails, 75 per cent higher than an average Friday.
Not all Telstra customers will be using Bigpond email, with many opting for independent third party systems like Gmail or Outlook Mail.
But Telstra has millions of active customers using Bigpond so there's a definite impact on average Australians with this scam filtering system.
Those 332 million emails sit alongside the up to 15 million scam phone calls each month being blocked by Telstra, and the 61 million scam SMS messages.
