Cybersecurity firm says hacked Yahoo data was sold on the internet

A US cybersecurity firm claims Yahoo data stolen by hackers three years ago was sold on the dark Web for around $300,000.
The 2013 data breach, which was only revealed this week, has now been linked to two known spammers and an entity with possible ties to espionage, according to the New York Times.
Andrew Komarov, chief intelligence officer at cybersecurity firm InfoArmor, told the Times the buyers paid about $300,000 (AU$410,700) each for a complete copy of the stolen database.
Mr Komarov said his company obtained a copy of the database and had been alerting military and law enforcement authorities in the US, Australia, Canada, Britain and the EU over the last few months.
He said InfoArmor did not trust Yahoo to investigate thoroughly enough since it had an impending deal to sell its internet businesses to Verizon Communications.
The records of more than one billion Yahoo users including names, birth dates, phone numbers and passwords were stolen in what’s now being called the largest known data breach of a company.
