App lets sleepers wake up to sound, smell of bacon

A new iPhone app and dongle will allow users to wake up to the smell and sound of sizzling bacon.

The "Wake Up and Smell The Bacon" alarm app is US meat producer Oscar Mayer's first foray into phone software.

But the app is not yet publicly available, with bacon enthusiasts needing to apply to become an Official Bacon Beta Tester, Time magazine reports.

Official testers will receive a piece of hardware that attaches to the bottom of their iPhone that emits the smell of bacon when their alarm goes off.

The iPhone app also makes the sound of bacon sizzling on a frying pan.

"The essence of Oscar Mayer bacon will strum at your nostril strings like no other," the Oscar Mayer website said about the app.

To promote the app Oscar Mayer made a two-minute commercial showing a glamorous young woman dreaming about bacon in various ways.
