Bus driver charged after crash leaves motorcyclist critical

A bus driver has been charged and has had his licence suspended after a motorcyclist was left fighting for life in Sydney's inner east.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Gadgigal and O'Dea Avenue in Zetland after reports a motorcyclist had been hit just before 6pm yesterday.

The motorcyclist, a 43-year-old man, was treated by witnesses before NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and took him to St Vincent's Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The bus driver, a 63-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash was initiated.

The bus driver was arrested on his release from hospital and has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm).

His licence was suspended, and he was granted conditional bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court in December.
