Young woman dies of meningococcal

A young Victorian woman has reportedly died of an unknown strain of meningococcal.

The 19-year-old Ballarat student died suddenly from the disease on Wednesday night, News Corp reports.

The Department of Health and Human Services has not confirmed which strain of illness struck the woman but said risk to those she was in contact with was "very low".
