Young mother predicted own murder

Eerie text messages show that a young mother at the centre of a homicide investigation feared she would die a violent death.

Maddison Murphy-West, 20, was found dead at her Pakenham home in October last year.

A year before her death, Murphy-West messaged a friend to say she had been choked in front of her young son, Noah.

Detectives traced the messages and discovered they were sent from Casey Hospital in Berwick where Murphy-West was being treated for assault injuries.

In the messages, Murphy-West describes how she underwent CT scans and was waiting for results.

She goes on to confide in her friend that she was afraid that her attacker was "going to kill me".

"He bashed me, choked me today. I can't have that in front of my son," Murphy-West wrote.

"If he calls you, don't tell him anything. Not even about me being in hospital."

Murphy-West also wrote that the man behind the attack needed to "get help".

“He can’t treat people like this. Jail is what he needs."

A homicide investigation was immediately launched after Murphy-West's body was discovered based on police suspicions that the murder scene had been tampered with to make it look like a suicide.

Her son Noah, aged 20 months at the time, had been in the house when Murphy-West died.
