A young rugby league player has been rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after collapsing during a match in Sydney's southwest.

The 13-year-old suffered a bad knock during a junior match between Macarthur Saints and Campbelltown City on Saturday afternoon.

The injured boy, a Macarthur player, left the field for treatment but reportedly collapsed after resuming play a short time later.

He was flown to the Children's Hospital at Westmead, in Sydney's west, in a serious but stable condition.

The incident comes just three days after another young rugby league player suffered serious head injuries in a tackle.

Year 11 student Tyler Horton was badly injured during a match between Bathurst High School and Dubbo College, in the state's central west, on Thursday.

Tyler, 16, was flown to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in an induced coma.
