Young Islamic State supporter pleads guilty to death threats at school

A 14-year-old Sydney boy who waived the Islamic State flag and yelled death threats at Christian school students and a teacher is the third member of the same family to come under the watch of authorities for supporting the terror group.

The boy committed the offences while sitting in the passenger seat of a red hatchback as his 18-year-old friend drove past the Maronite College of the Holy Family in Harris Park on September 16.

The 14-year-old pleaded guilty in Parramatta Children's Court yesterday to offensive conduct and intimidating a school staff member.

Just two days later the boy's family was targeted in sweeping counter-terror raids, Fairfax Media reports.

Police officers investigating an alleged plot to behead a random member of the public searched the boy's family home in western Sydney, seizing laptops and mobile phones.

No one was charged, however.

The boy, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile offender, and his 18-year-old friend will be sentenced in December.

The school has since posted a security guard at their gates.

Community leaders have warned of ISIL tactics to focus recruitment on young westerners, such as Bankstown teen Abdullah Elmier who told his parents he was going on a fishing trip but slipped out of Australia and was next seen starring in an ISIL propaganda video about waging jihad on the west.
