Strike force formed after park assaults

A team of specialist police has been assembled to find a man who allegedly sexually and indecently assaulted two sisters, aged two and six, in the toilet block of a western Sydney park.

The man fled from Campbell Hill Pioneer­ Reserve in Guildford after assaulting the two girls about 1.30pm on Thursday while their family sat enjoying lunch only 30m away.  

"Police attended the park and conducted a search of the area with the assistance of the dog unit and PolAir but were unable to locate the man," police said in a statement.

After failing to find the abuser, detectives from the child abuse squad formed strike force Sandyman.

They are looking for a man described as being of Middle Eastern or Mediterranean appearance, aged in his 20s, about 165 centimetres tall with an average build and facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and blue shorts or pants.

Yesterday a large group of residents were gathered outside the park, which has a shaded playground and covered eating areas in addition to the toilet block. 

Local resident Maysa, who claims to know the family involved, told The Daily Telegraph the man should be "burnt, dead".

"It's shocking. I don't know what to say. It's disgusting. There's no words to describe how I feel, especially how the family feels," she said.

Another resident said she could have seen the same man leaving the women's toilets last year. 

"I was walking into the women's toilet with my two little­ boys when I saw him walking out and I thought 'What's he doing in the women's toilet?' Marina Smith-Thorne from Chester Hill said. "He just sheepishly walked out. At the time I didn't think anything of it."
