Young driver jumps out of moving car to evade Queensland cops

A young man has escaped Queensland police by jumping from a stolen car and disappearing into brush seconds before the vehicle slammed into trees.

The driver leapt from the blue 1999 Toyota Camry sedan in the rough at Grasstree Beach near Sarina about 2am on December 30.

Dashcam footage, released from the officers’ patrol car, shows the sedan speed down a darkened road before the man suddenly popped open the driver’s side door.

With the car still running, the headlights of the cop car catch the man as he slid out of the car and tumbled into the long grass as the sedan ricocheted off a number of tree trunks before coming to a stop.

As the cops pulled up, the young driver clambered to his feet. He scampered off into the dark before an officer could nab him.

The sedan was allegedly stolen from a Mackay hotel on December 14.

A police search of the vehicle found two sets of stolen registration plates and other items believed to have been stolen from recent break and enters in the area.

Police are now searching for the driver. He is described as Caucasian, 170cm tall, in his early 20s and of medium build. He was seen wearing white overhead earphones.
