Young Brisbane mum charged with supporting terrorism

A Brisbane mother-of-four has been charged with supporting terrorism after being arrested trying to board a plane carrying cash and equipment – including camouflage gear – for her husband fighting in Syria, according to reports.

The 29-year-old was arrested as she and her four young children tried to board a flight in Sydney about 8.30pm on Saturday, the Daily Telegraph reports.

She was taken to nearby Mascot police station and later charged.

Three search warrants were also executed in Sydney and Brisbane.

When word spread on social media of the woman's arrest, a group of hardline supporters gathered at the police station clamouring for her release, prompting police to call in back-up to deal with them.

The woman was granted bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on June 2.

Her passport reportedly has also been confiscated.

"As per the sister who was stopped at the airport last night she and her kids are now safe with family but passport has been taken," read a post on the Al-Risalah Facebook page, a meeting place for young Muslims.

More than 100 Australians, many from NSW and mostly young men, have travelled to Syria to join rebel fighters in the civil war.
