$1 million in cash stolen in brazen home invasion

Three men have been arrested in NSW after a farmer was attacked and robbed in a South Australian town hundreds of kilometres away.

According to police, three men stormed the property in Yorketown at 1am on Monday, allegedly targeting Francis Taheny - known as Dig - and stealing more than $1 million in cash.

"I reckon it's going to knock him about a fair bit. I don't think he'll trust too many people anymore," local resident Martin Webster said.

At 8.45am, officers stopped a white Hyundai van almost 600 kilometres away on the Barrier Highway near Broken Hill. 

The driver, a 49-year-old NSW man, was arrested, but the passenger fled.

Inside the car were 14 firearms, including a semiautomatic loaded shotgun, a large quantity of collectable coins and a large amount of cash.

Police then tracked down a second white van in Cobar, more than 1000 kilometres from Yorketown, which allegedly contained more stolen property.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at that scene.

Police say the attack left the 74-year-old victim with head injuries, but after being treated at the local hospital, he has been able to return home.

Both of the arrested men faced court in NSW today, where they will remain behind bars until they can be extradited to South Australia.
