Man was murdered 'six days before body found in bin'

A man charged with murder following the discovery of a body stuffed in a rubbish bin at a Brisbane apartment complex has been remanded in custody.

Adam John Charles Evans, 30, of Yeronga, is charged with murdering Kym Mitchell on November 26, six days before his body was discovered in the bin.

Mr Mitchell is understood to have been 61 and lived near to where his body was discovered on Saturday.

Evans appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on January 21.

A second man, 38, has also been charged with his murder and will face court tomorrow.

No details of the alleged offence were read out in court, but police earlier said the victim was found in a bin outside a unit complex in Yeronga on Saturday night, after residents complained of a terrible smell.

A 23-year-old woman is still being questioned while a 27-year-old woman has been released without charge.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said officers who attended the crime scene described it as "harrowing".

Resident Joel Rivett said he had been staying with a friend when the pair made the grisly discovery.

"I went over to the bin when me mate found it... so I've lifted the bin and there was a couple of black bags in there," Mr Rivett said.

"I've worked out in the bush before and smelt dead roos in the sun... and it couldn't compare to that.

"It's pretty shocking, disgusting."

Residents told 9News the area is usually quiet but they had recently become concerned by drug use.

Police want to speak with anyone who saw anything suspicious on Yeronga Road and surrounding streets as well as the train station.
