Alleged driver in kidnapping where victim was shot twice before being dumped in suburban street faces court

A man accused of driving a car involved in a kidnapping and shooting in Sydney's south-west is fronting court today.

A 28-year-old was confronted by three men, two with guns, outside a house on Cooper Street in Yagoona about 11.20pm in October last year.

The alleged victim was shot in the shoulder and forced into a white Holden Commodore.

NSW Police were told the 28-year-old was bound, assaulted repeatedly, and shot again in the kneecap.

The victim was then dragged from the Commodore and abandoned in McPherson lane in the nearby suburb of Carlton.

Emergency services rushed him to St George's in a critical condition. He has since been released.

A few hours later at 12.20am police found the Holden Commodore used in the alleged kidnapping and assault burnt out on Massey Street, also in Carlton.

At the time, Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Houldin, described the crime as "horrific".

"We're of the belief that both parties are known to each other, this is not a random attack," he said.

"This is a targeted attack and clearly they are in conflict with one another."

Investigators have since alleged the incident was linked to an apparently staged car crash a day earlier, where a the 27-year-old driver of a truck deliberately crashed into a parked car on Cooper Street, Yagoona.

Four people have been charged during the investigation.

The most recent was on June 12 when a 28-year-old was arrested at Figtree. Police allege he was the driver of the Commodore involved in the 2019 attack.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with accessory after the fact to take person intend serious indictable offence and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required.

The man appeared at Wollongong Bail Court on June 13, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at Bankstown Local Court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Keperra are continuing.
