World War I widows going to Gallipoli

Australia may have lost its remaining World War I veterans, but 10 widows are preparing to travel to Gallipoli for the Anzac centenary.

Jean Pockett, 92 and Diane Melloy, 71, from Queensland are among those making the journey for the April 25 ceremony, Veterans Affairs Minister Michael Ronaldson has announced.

All 115 widows alive today were invited to attend the service, he said, noting they provided an important link with those who survived the "horrors of those awful battlefields".
