Hair-raising video shows firefighters driving through smoke of WA bushfire

A hair-raising video of firefighters driving through thick blankets of smoke in Western Australia has shown just some of the danger of an active fire front.

The video, posted to social media but now deleted, shows fire crews driving through smoke generated by a fire burning at Wooroloo on the outskirts of Perth.

At times the smoke is so thick, visibility is reduced to zero.

The fire in Wooroloo has burnt through more than 7000 hectares of land, destroying multiple homes with still more under threat.

The perimeter is at 75km, posing a challenge for firefighters.

Challenging winds and raging flames should act as a warning to residents in the path of a bushfire north-east of Perth to leave their homes as soon as possible, authorities have said.

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has said there are "threats to lives and homes" and urged people to listen to bushfire advice.

"This is an extremely dangerous fire," he said.

Mr McGowan said DFES had advised more than 80 per cent of properties in the rural Tilden Park area in Gidgegannup had been lost.
