Women sought help before violent deaths by men in South Australia

Heartbroken family members have revealed women close to them sought help before they were viciously killed by men in South Australia and called for desperate changes.

Graziella Dailler was stabbed 50 times inside her South Australian home in 2014 by a man she had a restraining order against.

He had spent years torturing and harassing the 48-year-old but was out on bail when he killed her and then himself.

Daughter Natasha Bailey has shared the heartbreaking story tonight on episode one of a 9News exclusive series on domestic violence.

She said the man should have never been let out on bail.

"I know down to her last breath she really fought hard to try and still be here with us ... he was just too powerful in the end," she said.

"The detectives came up to me and told me there was two bodies in the house I just remember the first words that came out of my mouth was 'This is because you guys didn't do your job'."

More than 30 women have been killed allegedly by men in Australia so far this year.

Almost 10 years to the day her mother's life was cut short, Bailey said she couldn't understand how this type of violence was still happening to women.

"It is what it takes, nothing gets done, nothing gets talked about until they're in a body bag ... it shouldn't get to that point," she said.

"I feel a lot of guilt ... for not doing more. I wish I had known what was going on."

It is a guilt she shouldn't be burdened with but, unfortunately, shares with other loved ones of victims of domestic violence.

Raman Kharoud said she felt like she failed to protect her niece Jasmeen Kaur.

The nursing student was only 21 years old and living with her aunt in Adelaide when the man she broke up with kidnapped and buried her alive in the Flinders Ranges in 2021.

"She was just a kid," Kharoud said.

"It's still hard to accept she is no longer with us."

Kaur had warned police she didn't feel safe prior to her death.

"They don't need to wait until something happens, they need to protect, they are here to protect," Kharoud said.

"Something is not working, the system is not working, it needs to be changed."

Thousands of women across the state are experiencing domestic violence but data has showed a growing number are seeking help.

In tomorrow night's part two of this series, 9News will look at the pressure on the front line to stop the violence before it ends in a death.
