Man charged with murder after 'happy' grandmother found dead in quiet street near Nowra

A man has been charged over the alleged murder of a woman near Nowra on the NSW South Coast.

Denise Brameld, 51, was found dead in her home about 11.30am Friday. Her son made the confronting discovery and called police.

Officers from the South Coast Police District along with NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived a short time later and she was pronounced dead.

Today her neighbour Louis Woodham was charged with murder, making no application for bail.

Friends have remembered Ms Brameld, who lived in the area for 30 years, as a keen gardener and a devoted grandmother.

"She was happy-go-lucky, always on the go," one friend said.

On Friday, Detective Inspector Scott Nelson, South Coast PD Crime Manager, said Ms Brameld had suffered serious injuries.

"The scene was quite confronting," he said.

Woodham was arrested nearby a short time later. He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with murder.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Officers are asking anyone who travelled on the Comerong Island Road in the region in the past 24 hours to hand over any dashcam footage they have to Nowra Police.
