A rescue crew battled tough terrain to carry a car crash victim 200m up a steep mountain in the Gold Coast hinterland today.

The 40-year-old woman was trapped in her car for two hours, after it plunged off the road and down into thick bushland at about 2pm.

She phoned for help herself, and emergency services eventually located her car down the Beechmont range.

A crew of seven emergency services personnel carried the woman to safety by stretcher, using a rope tied to a tree as support.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
