Body of woman found in car in near Melbourne park

A man has been arrested after a woman's body was found in a car in Melbourne's south-east.

Police are still at the scene in Clayton South where a woman's body was found inside a white sedan near Keeley Reserve in Mallawa Street at 3.30pm.

A man has been arrested in Dandenong and is being interviewed by police over the suspicious death.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were called to the car park to treat a woman who had been assaulted, but arrived to find she had died.

Police are door-knocking the area, asking locals if they heard or saw anything suspicious overnight or any time before she was found today.

Neighbours say children frequently play in the park close to where the woman's body was found.
