Attacker on the run after woman stabbed and sexually assaulted in home
A sexual predator is on the run after a woman was stabbed and sexually assaulted inside her own home in Melbourne’s south-east.
Emergency services were called to Rowan Drive in Doveton just after midday yesterday where they found the 54-year-old woman with stab wounds.
A neighbour told 9NEWS they heard the woman screaming.
“It was just like a scream like someone was being hurt or something,” a neighbour said.
Another neighbour, Wallis Bennett, told 9NEWS the woman was upset.
“They put her onto the stretcher, she was complaining of chest pains,” Mr Bennett said.
“She was in shock I'd say.”
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
The Sexual Crime Squad is now leading the investigation due to the injuries she sustained during the attack.
Police have told 9NEWS the incident is being treated as random.
The attacker is still on the run.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
