Woman killed was rollerblading, police say

A woman who was hit and killed by a truck in Sydney's south was rollerblading at the time, police say.

The death of the 38-year-old woman, who was struck when crossing Wentworth Ave in Mascot just before 5pm on Thursday, is the latest in a string of pedestrian fatalities in Sydney.

Witnesses have told police the woman stepped onto the road when the pedestrian light was red.

"It doesn't appear she's waited for any green pedestrian alert," duty officer Joel Hill told AAP.

The woman is believed to be from Mascot and had been living with her parents, say police.

The 25-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests before being interviewed at Mascot police station. He has since been released.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Two weeks ago, a man died after being hit by a bus on a busy Sydney CBD street, while a pedestrian was killed when a coach veered across the road in Haymarket.

In January, a 51-year-old woman died after being trapped under a bus in Sydney's CBD.
