Woman driving car killed, man seriously injured, during head-on crash in Melbourne

A woman died and a man was seriously injured when two vehicles collided in south-east Melbourne overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Lysterfield Road in Lysterfield at 11pm yesterday, where they found a ute and a car heavily damaged from the head-on crash.

Despite efforts to revive the female driver of the car, she was declared dead at the scene.

The ute driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.

His male passenger was flown to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the causes of the crash.
