Police believe a 34-year-old woman was driving a Mazda 3 in an easterly direction when her car collided with the rear of a Volkswagen sedan travelling in the same direction. The Mazda 3 then struck a taxi which was stationary on the same road.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and then taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She remains there under police guard.

The Volkswagen driver, a 51-year-old man, and the driver of the taxi, a 36-year-old man, escaped the crash without injury.
