Woman helps police over Canberra shooting

Police are speaking with a woman who may have been in the car with a man who allegedly shot another woman in Canberra.

They are also hunting dashcam footage of a blue Hyundai Getz driving around the ACT suburbs Erindale, Weston Creek and Wanniassa on Monday and Tuesday.

Michael Paul Forrest, 27, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with assault, shooting a firearm and endangering life, and attempted armed robbery.

He did not enter any pleas and remains in custody.

The charges relate to an incident where a woman was shot while sitting in her car in Forrest, near the capital's Parliamentary Triangle and Manuka Oval, on Tuesday morning.

She was hospitalised with gunshot and shrapnel wounds.

Police initially said there was a passenger in the car with the man.

The woman helping the investigation is not the person who was injured and has not been charged with any crimes at this point.
