Woman fighting for life after Gold Coast hit and run

A woman is fighting for life after being mowed down by a driver and dragged several metres down in a "callous" hit and run on the Gold Coast.

The 62-year-old was struck from behind by a white Audi sedan while she was crossing the road about 11pm last night.

The driver did not stop to help the woman who was left on the side of the road with critical injuries.

Paramedics rushed to the woman's aid and were seen reassuring her in footage obtained by 9News.

"We're going to keep you covered up alright?" a paramedic said.

"We're going to keep you nice and still darling."

The 62-year-old is currently in an induced coma at Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

William Houghton from Queensland Ambulance Service said she was left with "pretty significant injuries to her head and torso".

Scott Knowles from Queensland Police said the driver would have felt the impact of the collision.

"The driver has negotiated the roundabout... that's when she was struck and then caught up underneath the vehicle," Knowles said.

"She was dragged under that vehicle for a little while, the vehicle stopped.

"The callousness of what was shown here... without rendering any assistance whatsoever... it was pretty traumatic for all involved."

The driver of the Audi stopped temporarily but was caught on camera passing a nearby apartment block.

He was last seen heading onto the Gold Coast highway.

Police are now using Gold Coast City Council's over 700 CCTV cameras to try and catch the perpetrator.

They are appealing for members of the public who may have seen the vehicle or its driver to come forward.

"We will identify you.... we will locate you," Knowles said.

"There's every option that you need to come forward now."
