A receptionist is lucky to be alive after an out of control car crashed into a factory in Carrum Downs, in Melbourne's south-east.

Michelle Campbell was sitting at her desk just after 1pm when a Holden Astra ploughed through a nearby wall.

CCTV obtained by 9News shows Ms Campbell frozen in fear as the car crashes through the wall, coming to a stop beside her.

"I was actually quite shocked, and I think I was yelling at it to stop," she said.

The driver, an employee of an insulation company, stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.

The SES was called in to assess the full extent of the destruction, thankfully the building is still structurally intact.

The IT system was so badly damaged the office could be out of action for a month.

While nobody was injured, SES worker Andy Jacobs says timing was all that prevented a very different outcome.

"Another 30 seconds earlier and it could have been a different story today," he said.

Victoria Police is expected to interview the driver.
