Paramedics were called to a shopping centre carpark at Findon just before 7pm last night.

Family arrived soon after and tried to help but the woman could not be saved.

Neighbours heard the car rev loudly and understand the 81-year-old woman was reversing when she fell from her moving hatchback and was struck. The car then crashed into a shopping trolley storage area.

Nearby resident Nathan Coombe said his children heard people screaming.

"We saw a lady laying on the ground and people assisting her...it was pretty bad" he said.

Police Major Crash investigators worked late into the night and taped off a section of the carpark.

The state’s road toll is now 68, compared with 53 at the same time last year
