Woman dies in head-on Melbourne freeway crash

A woman has died after a head-on collision with a four-wheel-drive on the Western Freeway in Melbourne’s north-west last night.

Police believe her Holden Astra travelled on to the wrong side of the freeway at Hopetoun Park and into the path of a four-wheel drive just before 11pm.

She died at the scene.

The 4WD’s male driver is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries in hospital.

His passengers, a young boy and girl and a man in his 20s, were not injured.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
