Woman demands drugs before stabbing Queensland Ambulance paramedic

A paramedic is in hospital after a woman demanded medication before allegedly stabbing him twice, leaving him unconscious at a Happy Valley ambulance station.

Police said the woman came to the Queensland Ambulance Centre at Happy Valley at around 3.30pm, before she produced a box knife and demanded drugs.

After stabbing the paramedic, a 56-year-old man and station manager at Fraser Island, during a scuffle, she fled the scene.

The paramedic was treated on the ground and police established a crime scene.

He was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition yesterday.

The man is having X-rays but it is believed he will not need surgery.

The woman has been described as Caucasian, approximately 175cm tall and of a slim build.

She is aged in her late 20s to early 30s, with an Australian accent.

A total of 170 paramedics were assaulted on the job last year.

The Queensland Government has pledged more than $1 million into stopping the violent attacks.
