Woman charged over fatal petrol tanker crash in Melbourne
Police have charged a woman who allegedly caused a petrol tanker to fatally collide with a number of vehicles in May. (AAP)
A 48-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly causing a petrol tanker crash which killed one man and injured six in East Keilor, in Melbourne’s north-west, in May this year.
The petrol tanker was travelling outbound on the Calder Freeway, near Milleara Road, when it collided with a number of vehicles around 8.35am on May 24.
A 49-year old Ascot Vale man died when his car was flattened on impact with the tanker, while six others were taken to hospital with injuries.
Authorities say the tanker was in the centre lane on the freeway when a car allegedly pulled in front of it and caused the truck to swerve and topple.
The driver of the car, a woman from Keilor, was today charged with dangerous driving causing death, two counts of dangerous driving causing serious injuries, reckless conduct endangering life, careless driving and failure to give way.
She has been bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on December 2 for a filing hearing.
