Angry outbursts in Sydney court

The sister of an allegedly murdered woman has had to leave court after angrily screaming at the accused attacker: "why did you kill her, why?"

Proceedings in Katherine Abdallah's committal hearing were brought to a dramatic halt on Thursday when Christine Sarkis turned to her sister's accused killer and started crying and yelling.

"Why did you kill my sister, why?" she said.

"Why did you do this Katherine? Why did you kill her, why?"

Repeatedly calling out "Katherine", Christine Sarkis said: "When police came to my place I told them you wouldn't hurt her".

As family and police officers stood up and took Christine screaming and crying from the courtroom in Sydney's Downing Centre, a distressed Abdallah told her legal team: "I need to talk to her".

Abdallah, 32, has been charged with the stabbing murder of Susan Sarkis, 21, at their Brighton-Le-Sands townhouse on February 9 last year.

Police have previously alleged Abdallah murdered Ms Sarkis following a protracted argument about the younger woman using her car without permission.

The court has heard that Abdallah and the Sarkis sisters came from close-knit Lebanese families.

In giving evidence before leaving court, Christine Sarkis said Abdallah was family but that she had tried to distance herself from the 32-year-old in the months leading up to her sister's death.

In November 2012, Christine Sarkis said she had gone to Abdallah's home and had a protracted verbal argument.

After around an hour of the pair yelling at each other, Christine Sarkis said she turned to leave.

As she unlocked the front door, she alleged Abdallah grabbed a knife from the kitchen and "began waving it around and screaming".

Christine Sarkis said she got a minor cut on her wrist before running to her car and driving away.

The comments came after Susan Sarkis's childhood friend, Mary Massih said she received a phone call from the 21-year-old on the afternoon of her death, asking her to pick her up from the south Sydney home.

"Suzie was crying on the phone," Ms Massih said.

"She said that she was getting bashed by 'Jack' and Kat."

Following the two-day committal, Magistrate Mark Buscombe found there was enough evidence for Abdallah to stand trial.

She will be arraigned in the Supreme Court next month.
