Woman left in paddock after serious assault in South Australia

A woman wounded in a serious assault has been found in a paddock near the side of a road south of Adelaide.

The woman sustained head injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition after being discovered in Clarendon in the Adelaide Hills.

She was found by a member of the public, and claimed she had been assaulted.

Investigators believe the attack was not random, and that she may have been attacked elsewhere and dumped in the paddock.

Officers seized a number of items from the scene as evidence.

Neighbours say they are shocked at what might have transpired.

"My daughter heard dogs barking constantly," one neighbour said.

"My reaction to the detective was, oh my glory, that is really getting a bit too close to home."

No arrests have been made and police are urging anybody who witnessed suspicious activity in the area in the past 24 hours to get in touch.
