She allegedly refused to stop the vehicle, triggering a pursuit along Grange Road and South Road which was stopped soon after for safety reasons.

It is understood the woman also stole petrol from a service station on Port Road at Welland around an hour earlier.

At around 6am authorities responded to Holbrooks Road and Armour Avenue in Underdale to find the woman had crashed the vehicle into a stobie pole.

She fled the scene, but was discovered hiding in the house of a local and arrested by officers.

She has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for minor injuries and is expected to be questioned by police.
