Man surrenders peacefully after fireworks spark major police operation in Coledale

A 41-year-old man has surrendered peacefully to police after a major operation in Sydney’s south today that was sparked by fireworks.

Emergency services rushed to a premises at Buttenshaw Drive in Coledale, 18 kilometres north of Wollongong’s city centre shortly after 9.30am this morning following reports of multiple gunshots being fired.

Police locked down the street, taking one man into custody whilst another remained inside the premises.

Shortly after 1.30pm the operation ceased, with a 41-year-old man surrendering to officers peacefully.

The man was letting off fireworks and no guns were involved in the operation.

Residents were warned to stay inside their homes as police worked to calm the situation.
