Tyrrell inquest: Margaret Spedding gives evidence

The wife of washing machine repairman Bill Spedding insists he was with her on the morning William Tyrrell vanished from the yard of his New South Wales Mid North Coast home.

Margaret Spedding gave evidence this morning at the inquest into the disappearance of the three-year-old.

"We arranged to meet at the Coffee Buzz to have a coffee before we went to the assembly," she said.

According to a receipt tendered to the court, they ordered their drinks and food at 9.42am.

Mrs Spedding says they then walked across the road to a school assembly.

William is believed to have gone missing around 10am that morning from his foster grandmother's home at Kendall about 15 minutes away.

In a walk-through with former lead Detective Gary Jubelin, Mrs Spedding repeatedly says her husband was with her that morning.

"He was here with me, but you're saying he wasn't, he was."

She also spoke of her shock at the police attention and media coverage.

"We were in shock when this all took place, we couldn't believe what had happened to us."

Mr Spedding had been at the Kendall home where William was last seen in the days before.

He has always maintained he had no plans to return to the property that day to finish the repairs and was not involved.

He is expected to give evidence at the inquest after his wife.
