Wholesaler issues urgent recall of kids' medicines over choking hazard

Australian medical wholesaler Symbion has recalled three of its products due to concerns they pose a choking hazard.

Wholesaler Symbion has issued a recall of "Ibuprofen Children's Suspension", which is sold under the brand names Chemmart and Pharmacy Choice.

Chemmart with batch numbers IA45163 and IA50030 and expiry dates of May and June 2017 should be returned, as should Pharmacy Choice medicine with the same expiry dates and batch numbers IA45162, IA50044 and IA50026.

Also recalled is the 200 ml Chemmart children's paracetamol with an expiry date of October 2016.

Symbion stresses that the medicine itself is not dangerous, but there is an issue with the containers, parts of which can break off, creating the choking hazard.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration consulted with the company before the decision was made to recall.

Customers are advised to return the goods to the place of purchase, where they will be refunded.
