White hot on hospitals in Tas parliament

New Tasmanian Labor opposition leader Rebecca White has used her first day in parliament to hammer the government over what she claims is a failing state hospital system plagued by bed shortages and ambulance queues.

Ms White, who took the leadership after the shock resignation of Bryan Green more than a fortnight ago, on Tuesday refreshed calls for a parliamentary inquiry into operations at the Royal Hobart and Launceston General hospitals.

"I can commit my government to do whatever it can to fix a broken health system," Premier Will Hodgman said, rejecting claims of a crisis and citing record health spending and low elective surgery waiting times under his Liberal administration.
