WHAT THE STATE GOVERNMENTS SAY ABOUT INCOME TAX POWERS

MIKE BAIRD (NSW, Liberal)

STANCE: Unclear, but willing to talk

* "We're a long way from being able to say yay or nay."

* "I'm happy to consider that sort of proposal but it will be on the basis of evidence."

* "You cannot take billions and billions of dollars away and say `It's your problem'. That's not good enough. That's not the good-faith way of doing things and we expect better."

* "We've still got a shortfall of $6 bil in education funding and $11.8 bil in health funding."

PETER GUTWEIN (Tas treasurer, Liberal)
