When will it stop raining in New South Wales?

There's no firm prediction of a reprieve from the rain in NSW anytime soon, with a new forecast predicting a larger-than-average drenching this weekend.

It has rained in Sydney every day this month so far, causing the city to receive its entire May rainfall average in just six days.

If you're wondering when there's supposed to be a break on the horizon, here's what the expert meteorologists are saying:

The Bureau of Meteorology's seven-day forecast for NSW is showing a chance of showers up and down the coast until Monday, May 16.

The heaviest coming showers are expected this weekend in Sydney, and the NSW Riverina and the south coast.

On Saturday, a rain system is expected to cover nearly the entire state, with the rainfall set to be heaviest around the NSW south coast and central west.

This weekend, the Sydney region could receive up to 150 mm of rain.

"Another round of widespread rain will drench Australia's southeast mainland over the next three days, dumping more water into already saturated catchments," Meteorologists at Weatherzone said.

It is likely to cause flooding in some already saturated catchment areas.

The wild weather also has the potential to bring severe thunderstorms and flooding.

A severe weather warning is in place for parts of the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts.

Flood warnings have already been issued for Tuggerah Lake and the Warrego River..

A strong wind warning was also issued for the Byron Coast.
