WHAT'S ON IN PARLIAMENT NEXT WEEK?

* House of Representatives and Senate sit for two weeks from September 9.

* First sitting since August 1.

* Government wants to deal with the medevac repeal bill but the Senate inquiry is not due to report until October 18.

* Water Minister David Littleproud is seeking to pass a bill ensuring an indigenous Australian is on the board of the Murray Darling Basin Authority.

* Reintroduction of a bill to set up three trial sites for drug testing of welfare recipients.

* Government to bring back laws enabling mandatory jail sentences for child sex offenders.

* Senate expected to deal with bills on counter-terrorism; intellectual property; NDIS; inspector-general of live animal exports; multinational tax avoidance; national sports tribunal; crackdown on farm activists.

* Labor to seek a new body to look at the statement of ministerial standards, lobbying rules, the adequacy of government integrity agencies, freedom of information laws and other related matters.

* Centre Alliance senators to seek a Senate inquiry into Australia's relations with China.

* Senate to consider setting up a new committee to oversee the implementation of the national redress scheme for survivors of child sexual abuse.

* One Nation will seek to disallow the banking code of practice, saying it's wrong for the banks themselves to design the system of accountability.

* Tuesday's program includes first speeches by senators Scarr, Van and Rennick. Wednesday's first speeches include senators Smith and Walsh.

* First speech in lower house for Labor MP Libby Coker on Tuesday afternoon.
