‘I heard the voice of Satan’: Westfield Parramatta murder accused faces court

An Iranian refugee who allegedly stabbed and killed his partner’s ex-husband at a Sydney shopping centre on July 7 has told a court he felt “Satan was behind him” and heard a “voice” before he attacked.
Kazem Mohammadi Payam, 35, appeared in Parramatta Local Court today charged with the stabbing murder of 40-year-old Nabil Naser.
His lawyer Zemarai Khatiz has requested a psychological assessment claiming his client had been in an unstable condition at the time of the alleged murder.
According to facts tendered to the court, Mr Khatiz claims Mr Payam felt "Satan was behind him" and heard "a voice" before he allegedly stabbed Mr Naser.
Police allege Mr Payam bought a knife at the Westfield Parramatta shopping complex before meeting the victim, Mr Naser, near the Myer department store on level 4 to settle an argument.
Mr Payam then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and stabbed him several times in the chest.
Police allege the accused left the knife in Mr Naser’s chest, then calmly removed his own shirt to cover the wounds and made a mobile phone call.
The court has ordered for him to be psychologically assessed and the case will be recalled next month.
