Officers said the 45-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman was approached by the man in the Princes Highway hospital carpark about 5pm.

“He pulled the woman from her vehicle and started to drive off before the victim jumped into the backseat and attempted to stop him,” a police spokeswoman said.

“The man drove off and crashed into multiple cars parked in the hospital car park while the woman, still in the back seat, contacted police.”

When the driver crashed into an embankment on Sneydes Road about 20 minutes after the ordeal began, the woman got out of the car and attempted to restrain him before police arrived and arrested the man shortly afterwards.
